What the USDT blacklist is

The USDT smart contracts on TRON (TRC-20) and Ethereum (ERC-20) include an administrator blacklist. Tether can add an address with the contract's addBlackList function; from then on, transfers from that address fail. The same contracts expose isBlackListed / getBlackListStatus to read the status, and a destroyBlackFunds function that lets Tether burn the balance of a blacklisted address.

Tether's Terms of Service say it may freeze tokens or blacklist addresses where required by law or where it judges it prudent — in practice this usually follows requests from law enforcement or links to theft, scams or sanctions.

How this checker works

  • Tether freeze list: we index the on-chain AddedBlackList events of both USDT contracts (TRON and Ethereum), plus the USDC freeze list.
  • Sanctions: the address is screened against 100+ sanctions and risk sources, including OFAC, EU, UN and UK lists.
  • Known entities: 7M+ labeled addresses tell you whether the wallet belongs to an exchange, a mixer, a scam or another known service.

The quick check above is the initial screen and is free. A free account adds full reports with a 0–100 risk score and a fund-flow graph that follows the money across several hops.

Why check an address before you receive USDT

Receiving USDT from a frozen, sanctioned or theft-linked address can get your deposit held by an exchange, trigger extra checks on your account, or tie your own wallet to an investigation. A ten-second check of the sender is the cheapest protection there is. For a step-by-step guide, read Frozen USDT: why Tether blocks addresses and how to avoid it.

What to do if an address is flagged

  1. Do not accept the payment. Ask the counterparty to pay from a different, clean source.
  2. If you have already received funds, keep the transaction hashes and contact your exchange's support, or Tether's support if your own address was frozen.
  3. Do not try to move or split the funds through other wallets to hide where they came from — that makes the case worse and can be illegal.
  4. For ongoing protection, put the addresses you deal with under continuous KYT monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

Can a blacklisted USDT address still send tokens?

No. Once an address is on the USDT contract blacklist, transfers from it fail until Tether removes it. It can still receive tokens, which is why checking before you send or accept funds matters.

Is this USDT blacklist check really free?

Yes. The quick check needs no signup and is free within a fair-use limit. A free account adds 10 full reports with a risk score and fund-flow analysis.

Which networks does it cover?

Tether's freeze list on TRON (TRC-20) and Ethereum (ERC-20). Sanctions and risk screening covers 43 blockchains, including BNB Chain, Polygon, Bitcoin, Solana and TON.

Does a clean result guarantee the funds are safe?

No tool can promise that. A clean result means the address is not on the freeze, sanctions or risk lists we screen. The full report goes further by scoring the address and tracing where its funds came from.
